The Porto Seguro Carnival is the place to be at party time!

The Porto Seguro Carnival is reputed to be one of the best. Although Porto Seguro is much smaller than Salvador or Rio de Janeiro, most Brazilians would likely rate the carnival in Porto Seguro Brazil as one of the top few places to be.

What makes the Porto Seguro carnival so special? I think that the story that sums it up best is the tale of the Porto Seguro Brazil Carnival in 1984. The theme of the carnaval that year was “the story of Adam and Eve”.

Most people started off with quite minimalist costumes! The partying as usual consisted of drinking, dancing, laughing and lots of kissing. And when people really got into the spirit of the carneval that year, many people went all the way and stripped when the very loose script demanded!

The Porto Seguro Carnival runs for seven days. On the Sunday before the carnavale real, a beauty pageant takes place at one of the local hotels. Then once the carnaval Porto Seguro gets underway, massive trucks drive up and down the main street, with live bands, music and dancing.

The “Axe” music has the locals and tourists alike dancing non-stop. The samba, lambada and lambaerobica are mixing it up along the party main street, in the bars and shows, and of course on the beaches, where the partying often lasts all night long.

The Porto Seguro Carnival is a very peaceful carnevale – while in the large cities there are occasional outbreaks of violence, you’re unlikely to encounter anything of the sort in the carnival in Porto Seguro. Brazil travel enthusiasts say that Porto Seguro is the Bahia’s kissing capital. In this cozy town, the locals know each other and they are happy to get to know visitors fast.

You will feel very welcome and part of the carnival. Porto Seguro’s beach clubs just outside the town are very popular with the young people, who are always looking for partying, romance and fun!

You can buy an ‘abada’ or shirt to belong to a particular float, or ‘trio electrico’, which is a big truck with a live band and loud amplifiers. Members dance alongside and behind the trio and this is great fun as it is a wonderful way to make some immediate friends!

Finally, another advantage of the Porto Seguro carnival over Rio de Janeiro or Salvador is that it is considerably more affordable. Accommodation and other costs tend to rise steeply all across the Bahia during carnival time, but Porto Seguro still has affordable places to stay.
