What you need to know about Porto Seguro weather

The Porto Seguro weather is generally tropically beautiful. A lot of people are under the impression that the weather in Porto Seguro is: sun, sun and more sun. But there are seasonal variations in the Porto Seguro climate and rainfall in Porto Seguro.

Porto Seguro weather is influenced by the warm humid winds from the sea (called the southern trade winds) and by cold winds from the Patagonian side which bring in frontal rainfall. The average rainfall in Porto Seguro and the Bahia coast is about 1,500 mm. The driest seasons are August-September and January-February, but this variation is less noticeable in coastal cities like Porto Seguro due to the influence of the sea. Relative humidity is around 80% all through the year. Wind speed is greatest in the spring (September to November)
The average annual temperature in Porto Seguro is 22-24°C. The winter months are June, July and August, and this is the period during which there is the most rainfall in Porto Seguro.

In the summer, the Bahia tropical sun is MUCH more powerful than the European or North American summer sun. It is easy to be fooled by the cool sea breezes and the lower relative humidity of the Bahia into thinking that the sun is not that hot, but it most certainly is and you should be extremely careful, especially with young children, and ensure that they are covered in sun block and have a sun hat on at all times when they are playing out in the sun.

El Nino is a South American phenomenon where there is an abnormal rise in temperature over the sea. This can translate into drought like weather on the Eastern coast of the Bahia as rainfall is routed into areas that are normally dryer. “El Nino” means “The Little Boy” in Spanish, and is so called because the phenomenon is usually noticed around Christmas time, or the time of the “Christ Child”. The El Nino visits Porto Seguro on an irregular basis once every 2-7 years.

On the whole, Porto Seguro weather is much more clement than what we are used to in North America and Europe, and even during the “cold” months there are still plenty of days when the Porto Seguro weather is kind enough to allow beach parties!
