Bahia beaches: Praia d’Ajuda and Praia de Coqueiros

Praia d’Ajuda is the site of the biggest water theme park in South America. D’Ajuda Beach is a great option among the Porto Seguro beaches for a lively day out with the children – or indeed adults who enjoy a good time!

Praia d’Ajuda itself, like the typical Porto Seguro Brazil beach that it is, is a wonderful white sandy beach with palm trees and gently rolling dunes. If you don’t want the excitement of a theme park then a gentle walk along the Bahia beaches
is in itself a lovely way to spend the day.

Praia d’Ajuda is a beautiful spot of the Porto Seguro coast and this, like other beaches in Porto Seguro, is home to many interesting fishes, turtles and other wildlife. It is amazing to see the animals coexisting and thriving in spite of the population in the region which has increased dramatically over the past 20 years – the tourist population has sky rocketed and along with that the resident population too – thanks to the income that is invested into the region by the tourism industry.

You can hire equipment for gentle surfing, although the calm waters of the beach of d’Ajuda don’t attract professional surfers, who are more likely to listen for Porto Seguro Brazil surf reports on some of the more exposed Bahia beaches of the region than in the array of Porto Seguro beaches.

The nearby Praia de Coqueiros, or Beach of Coconuts, is a calm Bahia beach close to the beach d’Ajuda where the waves are particularly gentle and slow. The coral reefs here are about 100 meters away in the sea, and protect the shore from the waves, making it great for swimming and bathing. At low tide snorkeling is very popular, and fish-spotting among the natural pools that form along the reefs.

In the summer, there are banana boat rides on offer at Praia de Coqueiros, sure to be a big hit with the kids – remember to get a photo of this among your Porto Seguro beach pics as this is the one thing that the kids always want to tell their friends about when they get back home: “I rode on a banana on my holidays!”

Praia de Coqueiros also has a nice selection of restaurants so this is an ideal spot to stop for an evening meal at the end of your outing to Praia d’Ajuda and before heading back home to Porto Seguro for the night’s sleeping (or partying!)
